It is commonly known that Karen Blixen (1885-1962) was for several years a strong candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. In 1957 Blixen allegedly came very close, but unfortunately she was never awarded the prize.
When Ernest Hemingway received his Nobel Prize in 1954, he stated that he would gladly have waited until Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen’s pseudonym) had received hers.
